Katy Perry‘s “Roar” music video has surpassed 4 billion views on YouTube, marking the most views for any female artist on the platform.

“Roar” was released on August 10, 2013 by Capitol Records as the lead single from Perry’s fourth studio album, Prism.

Perry co-wrote the song with Bonnie McKee and its producers Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Cirkut.

The video, released on September 5, 2013, was directed by Grady Hall and Mark Kudsi and filmed at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. The music video had reached 3 billion views on February 6, 2020.

In the video, Perry and her boyfriend, portrayed by actor and model Brian Nagel, crash land in the middle of a jungle. Perry finds herself stranded in the jungle after her boyfriend is attacked by a tiger, leaving her to face the wild alone. However, she makes friends with some animals, including a monkey, an elephant, and even tames the tiger that killed her boyfriend.

“I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter/ Dancing through the fire/ ‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar,” she croons in the chorus of the smash hit.
