Adam Lambert recently shared a “Hemix” of his 2009 smash hit “Whataya Want From Me.”

The remixed version, “Whatya Want From Me (White Shadow Hemix ’24),” is currently streaming on all platforms.

The original version of the song, off his debut album For Your Entertainment, earned Lambert a Grammy nomination for best male pop vocal performance that year.

In the “Hemix,” the singer has reimplemented the pronoun “he” which was replaced with “it” when the song was originally recorded in 2009.

“He messed me up / Need a second to breathe,” Lambert sings in the new version to reclaim the pronoun and queerness in his artistry.

“‘Whataya Want From Me’ is a song that I hold dear to my heart and its success contributed to me having a platform to speak out in support of queer rights and equality,” said Lambert. “It’s a beautiful, full circle moment that I’m now able to reclaim it loud and proud with the ‘he’ pronoun to celebrate my community and how far we’ve come, with real representation and a spectrum of vibrant identities flourishing in the music industry. 2009 wasn’t ready for me, 2024 is.”
